Event Details
Stella Blue's Band
Stalwarts of the Garcia’s Capitol Theatre Grateful Dead scene since the very first days of the rebirth of the Capitol Theatre, Stella Blues Band celebrates 10 years of being a band on Thanksgiving Eve Wednesday November 27! Get your tickets to one of the biggest celebrations of the year and get ready for a night filled with camaraderie, memories, and the music of the Grateful Dead! Come join the Garcia’s DeadCenter family in wishing our hometown band a very happy 10th!
In the summer of 2009, six musicians gathered for the first time in a basement around a shared love for Grateful Dead music. Needing a name for their first show in November at the Rye Roadhouse they picked Stella Blue’s Band. Some of the original members have come and gone, but one thing has remained: a passion for playing Grateful Dead music in an authentic way that includes the signature parts, open jams, and a hope that any and every night can bring the magic that makes this music so special to so many.
By the time the Capitol Theatre re-opened in 2013, Stella had already made a name for itself as one of the premier Grateful Dead tributes in the New York Metro area and was an easy choice to launch the very first shows at the newly minted Garcia’s at The Cap. Live music at Garcia’s and DeadCenter with Stella Blue’s Band at the helm began in modest fashion with no stage and a borrowed sound system. Stella’s shows quickly grew in popularity as they played to full houses at Garcia’s and beyond as did the band’s stature as one of the top Dead tributes in the nation. Meanwhile Garcia’s added state of the art sound and lights and full stage to make it a mecca for bands both national and local. Stella and Garcia’s has shared a common journey of growth & community which continues to this day. With band members residing in Port Chester and surrounding communities Stella Blue’s Band is truly a hometown band.
For Stella’s fans and it’s Deadicated community, Stella Blue’s Band has left indelible memories ever since those first days; Multiple appearances on The Capitol Theatre stage including sit-ins from Phil Lesh & Melvin Seals; The band bringing free Grateful Dead music to Central Park with its annual Free Dead In The Park benefit, appearances at multiple festivals including the historic 50th anniversary Woodstock festie at Max Yasgur’s farm and passing on the gift of Grateful Dead music to the next generation with the band’s shows with the Rock & Roll Playhouse. Behind the scenes, the band is well known for giving back to the community having partnerships with charities both local and national including Riverkeeper, Headcount and multiple disaster relief organizations.
What a better way to celebrate this fan favorite band than to do it on Thanksgiving Eve, the biggest gathering of the year for live music lovers and folks returning to the area for the holiday. Join us at Garcia’s and hang out with hometown friends and wish the guys in Stella Blue’s Band a very happy Stella 10! We expect a large turnout and suggest picking up tickets in advance for this very special anniversary celebration. Get your tickets now!
