In their short time as a musical unit, the Bobby Paltauf Band have already been headlining venues, performing at major music festivals, and supporting national touring artists. We can't wait for the Connecticut-based band to bring the sounds of their powerful vintage rock trio to Port Chester when they return to Garcia's on SAT, JUL 19! Find out what you can expect to see at his show next month in our exclusive interview with Bobby Paltauf:

1. The first time you played Garcia’s was back in 2013, which makes your band one of the very first to play our stage! 3 years later, how would you describe your experience as a part of this blossoming community?

Our journey with the Capitol Theatre and Garcia's has been incredible and its hard to believe that was over 3 years ago.  Time flies!  Honestly before the Capitol came into scene I really don't remember so much incredible live music within a short drive. Mr. Shapiro and everyone at the Cap has poured their hearts out working to make the Capitol the venue it is, and its such an honor to be a part of such a great community!

2. Last year you released your debut album, “Lost And Found.” Do you have any plans for a follow up album and can we expect to hear any new material at your show on JUL 16?

Yes, we have been at work all this year creating new music and new sounds. You can expect to hear many many new original songs on the 16th, as well as maybe some new cover tunes! We are starting to record now, and plan to have our next album out this fall/winter.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBFuM8wfhy4

 

3. You write and perform your own music, but you’re also known to play the occasional cover song. In fact, the first track on “Lost And Found” features your arrangement of The Beatles classic Eleanor Rigby. What is your approach to covering music and making it your own?

I really love when I hear bands take a song and completely change it and throw a twist on it. Thats what we really have been about, just taking songs that we love, maybe more obscure songs, and just seeing what we can do with them. I have to give it to Soulive for the inspiration of trying out Eleanor Rigby as they did a similar arrangement a few years ago on their album, Rubber Soulive. We will definitely have some new covers in the mix for our show next month! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mou-aY54jbA

 

4. At just 16 years old, your resume is (to say the least) quite impressive. You’ve played alongside artists such as Buddy Guy, Page McConnell, and John Medeski- to name a few. What are some things you’ve learned playing with some of the biggest names in music? Have you received any valuable words of wisdom from these musical icons?

Its been an incredible and an honor getting to perform alongside such incredible and inspirational musicians. I think a common point that I have gotten as advice from these legends is to write your own music, and work as an artist creating and discovering your own sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zE76e1S2nB8

 

5. In addition to your Garcia’s show on JUL 16, you’re filling in for Brandon "Taz" Niederauer on JUL 9 with Lions on the Moon. How do you manage playing so much music along with other obligations like school and a social life?

Its been a lot of fun getting to play with Lions on the Moon. I have been hanging and sitting in with those guys for some time now, and getting to merge our ideas collectively as a group has been so cool! We are focussing on writing new music, and I have even got to bring some of my tunes over to play live. 6. You’ve already played at more venues than most people will play in their entire lives. What makes Garcia’s special and different from other venues? Can you describe the Garcia’s vibe?

Garcia's really has a unique vibe different from any place I've played before. The energy and vibe in the big room really does have an effect on the set you play in Garcia's because of the great history, all the incredible bands that stepped foot in there! Its such a great concept too, love doing the after shows! I really just love everything about it, and how intimate it is. Such a great room to play. So much history and energy throughout the entire space.

7. One of the things we love about you is that you are a true fan of live music. We saw you here at the Capitol Theatre recently to see Mudcrutch and Twiddle back in May. Of the shows you’ve seen at The Cap and/or Garcia’s, what are some of your favorites?

One of my first Cap shows was the solo acoustic Warren Haynes set he played about a month after the venue opened with Railroad Earth and it really was incredible! Warren is one of my favorites and him, all by himself for most of the show and a packed theater was so cool and special! One of the best shows i've ever attended. Also just recently the Twiddle show in May was insane. The energy in the room was off the charts. So intense, and those guys just bring it! I remember getting the honor to play with them in Hamden, CT a few years ago \ at a super small club in front of like 50 people. So cool to see how far those guys are coming!  To be honest I don't think i've every been to a bad show at the Cap.
