The show opened with a new young band called Lawrence, lead by siblings Clyde Lawrence and Gracie Lawrence. The band also had six other members, making a large group of 8 members, which made the stage feel like a party. Seeing that Gracie Lawrence is so young, at only 20 years old, everyone was immediately shocked and excited after hearing her extremely unique and absolutely powerhouse vocals. At just 23 years old, Clyde Lawrence blew away the audience performing on both keyboards and vocals. From beginning to end, Clyde’s soulful voice continued to wow the crowd, and a lot of people concluded that his voice bears a strong resemblance to John Mayer! The two siblings led an exciting set and the crowd ate up every second of it. At the end of their set, the band played their song “Alibi” which got everybody clapping and singing along. It was a very lively and exciting environment, perfect for an opening set!

Time for the main event! When Lake Street Dive came out at 9:30PM, everyone was already in a great mood. The theater was full to the brim of what felt like devoted Lake Street Dive fans, and everyone danced and sang every lyric to every song. Lead singer Rachel Price’s unmatched, soulful, powerful voice was just as good live as everyone hoped it would be. Her poise and wide smile lasted the entire show, and every song sounded crisp and perfect. They started with some of their old songs for their long-time fans, and then played a bunch of hits from their most recent Album Side Pony. The band made sure to fit in some fun little jam sessions, and had some of their own laughs throughout the performance. Each member got their own minute long solo, showing off their individual talents. It was awesome! In the middle of their set, Price said she wanted to show some of us their new stuff, and we got to hear three new songs they haven’t released yet! It felt really special!

At the end of their encore, they played one of their oldest songs, “My speed,” so recognizing that most of the audience probably doesn’t know the lyrics, Rachel Price took a moment to teach us them! The whole audience was singing and dancing along with her and the whole band. What a perfect ending to a perfect show. A favorite moment from the show was when Price said, "I love this theater. This room feels like a warm hug." Rachel Price’s voice is truly something else, and the talent of every member of Lake Street Dive is a reason alone to go get tickets and see them live as soon as you can. I hope to see them back at The Capitol Theatre very soon.
