Happy National Pig Day! We're celebrating all of the little oinkers of the world by listening to some of the most strange and unique songs dedicated in their honor. Who knew these guys had so many songs written about them?

1. "Pigs" by Pink Floyd

This song comes from the 1977 album Animals. The album is in three parts, “Dogs,” “Pigs,” and “Sheep.” The pigs represent the people who Roger Waters consider to be wealthy and powerful, at the top of the social ladder. During his guitar solo, David Gilmour used a talk box to mimic the sound of pigs. This was the first time Pink Floyd used a talk box in one of their songs, but definitely not the last.

2. "Piggies" by the Beatles

Released on The White Album in 1968, "Piggies," written mostly by George Harrison, features lyrical contributions from both John Lennon and Harrison's mother Louise.

George Harrison said of the song, "Piggies is a social comment. I was stuck for one line in the middle until my mother came up with the lyric, 'What they need is a damn good whacking' which is a nice simple way of saying they need a good hiding. It needed to rhyme with 'backing,' 'lacking,' and had absolutely nothing to do with American policemen or Californian shagnasties!"

In 2000, shortly after Phish took a break, guitarist Trey Anastasio turned this song into orchestral piece for the Vermont Youth Orchestra.

7. "War Pigs" by Black Sabbath

The opening song on the album Paranoid, "War Pigs" was originally titled “Walpurgis.”

"Walpurgis is sort of like Christmas for Satanists. And to me, war was the big Satan", said bassist and lyricist Geezer Butler. "It wasn’t about politics or government or anything. It was [about] evil. So I was saying 'generals gathered in the masses / just like witches at black masses' to make an analogy. But when we brought it to the record company, they thought 'Walpurgis' sounded too Satanic. And that's when we turned it into 'War Pigs'. But we didn't change the lyrics, because they were already finished." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3b6SGoN6dA

8. "Pigs in Space" by Mickey Hart

The band explained the deeply-rooted song in an interview, "I read the Gita, I read Black Magic Crowley, the Bible, anything I could get my hands on. If you want to talk to me about reaching nirvana, reaching Zen, well, the pig is closer than we are because the pig doesn't have material possessions. He f*cks when he wants to, he eats when he's hungry, and he sleeps when he's tired. that's the whole point of Zen. That's exactly what pigs do...so, 'Pigs in Zen.'"

11. "Pigs" by Cypress Hill
